McCordsville UMC Food Pantry Featured on WTHR
Our food pantry was recently highlighted by WTHR, sharing how quickly the need in our community has grown. Just a few years ago, we served about 25 people each week. This week, that number reached more than 250.
In the interview, pantry co-chairs Marjorie Phillips and Debbie Heck explained how essential community support is to keeping the shelves filled. Donations of food and financial gifts make it possible for us to continue serving families each week.
The pantry restocks regularly through Midwest Food Bank, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, weekly Kroger pick-ups, and donations from Panera Bread.
How the Pantry Serves
The drive-thru pantry is open every Wednesday from 9–11 a.m. Families receive a variety of items, including produce, meat, pantry staples, and more. Volunteers also offer encouragement and prayer for anyone who needs it. As Debbie shared, “We judge nobody,” and we meet people where they are.
Upcoming Dates
• Community Thanksgiving Meal: Saturday, Nov. 22, from 4–7 p.m. — open to all, regardless of ability to pay.
• Pantry Closed: Wednesday, Nov. 26, for Thanksgiving.
• Reopens: The following Wednesday.
